,Thai Teacher,
A Pretty Thai Math Teacher. Here is a math teacher at one of the schools I work at in rural Thailand.Very happy lady, funny and fun.The last week has been a hectic one as students and teachers are all gearing up for final test.Next week is all about the big test to see if you move on to another grade or not. Also Thailand is on pins and needles over the out come of the court decision on the 26th.The last few years has been touch and go politically as red shirts battle yellow shirts over control of the government.Once again there is road blocks in the Bangkok area run by military and police.Tens of thousands of military have been deployed for riot control and to secure the streets. The 26th is when the Thai courts decide on the 2.2 Billion dollar asset seizure of the former Prime Minister. The one where we had our last coupe, believe it was late 2006.The red shirts back him so if the court takes his assets the streets will explode into a feeding frenzy.A google search will get you most of the facts on this on going adventure. One thing it has done that effects me is put an end to my employment. Looks like the end of the term, which will be around the end of October my job is ending.Nothing personal its all about money, or lack of it to be more precise.Which is kind of a joke as my 'daily' salary is about what you spend on lunch.Anyway do a google search to keep up dated.I am not allowed to go to Bangkok and shoot street action. In fact I am not allowed to leave the village period !I think she means it this time.....;-).Thanks for all your on going support.Taken with a D300, 17-55 2.8 Nikkor Lens, SB800 flash gun. Hand held..
Spira Mirabilis (25/365)
I went on a photoshoot with some fellow seniors in the woods today. It was pretty fun, we played zombie tag after I got a few portraits. Afterwords we went to Gavin's house and messed around with my homemade ring flash. After a few minutes of experimentation, we discovered we could make a spiral with it, and it really reminded me of a logarithmic spiral. Interesting fact, the logarithmic spiral was first described by Jacob Bernoulli, who called it Spira mirabilis, 'the marvelous spiral'. It is found often in nature, and to me it is one of the only interesting things that involves math. Other examples of logarithmic spirals are: cyclones, sunflower heads, a hawk's decent from flying, nautilus shells, and spiral galaxies like the Whirlpool Galaxy.
math facts in a flash
This is a simple, no-frills electronic practice workbook. Each flashcard consists of 5 division facts, followed by a page of answers. They work just like ordinary, handheld flashcards, except that you read these modern flashcards in an eBook. The first 20 pages begin with just the numbers 0 thru 5 to help students develop fluency with the lower numbers first. Every 20 pages, a higher number is introduced until all of the numbers 0 thru 12 are used. Halfway through this eBook, the numbers 0 and 1 will stop appearing, as they become too easy. The facts are randomly organized, so you can’t simply guess the next answer based on a simple pattern – instead, you must memorize the facts, which is the goal of the workbook.
You’re in control of this electronic workbook. If the flashcards are too easy, skip ahead: As you go further ahead, there are more high numbers, and once you get halfway through, there are no more 0’s or 1’s. If the flashcards are too hard, go back to an earlier portion of this eBook, where the numbers are all lower. This way, you can suit the level of difficulty to your own individual needs and ability.
There are 800 pages: 400 flashcards, 400 answer pages. The answers come immediately after each flashcard. There are 2000 division facts all together – plenty of practice to develop fluency (and you could always go back and repeat any portions that you want).
